Reuse Concepts
Site Overview

The NRG Power Plant site was divided into five separate sites by a design team to best understand how to utilize and depict each section to align with the city's preferred Reuse Concepts. Click here to learn more information about each site.

Preferred Reuse Concepts

The 2021 Feasibility Study & Alternatives Analysis Study produced seven alternative reuse options. After receiving feedback from the City of Dunkirk's community, two preferred uses were retained.

Reuse Concepts

The following site reuse concepts are based on the preferred reuse concepts retained from the 2021 Feasibility Study & Alternatives Analysis and community feedback.

The following design concepts are concepts intended for envisioning site reuse options, not final designs.

Site Reuse Concept # 1 - Industrial

Design Concept #1 focuses on continuing industrial uses on the site. The design ultimately suggests an industrial park that utilizes some of the site's existing infrastructure. A Solar Farm is suggested in the field by the water as a contribution to the push for alternative energy. For more community interaction with the waterfront, a plaza right on the shoreline and a trail wrapped around the site is also depicted in this design concept.

Site Reuse Concept # 2 - Residential

Design Concept #2 adds the residential element to the site. The concept maintains the idea of an industrial park but with lighter industrial uses in mind, like a data center. A residential building puts residents right on the water with easy access and opportunities for more interaction with the waterfront and its amenities (the plaza and trail).
